Lennox Community Gardens was delighted to receive a generous donation from Elders Real Estate Lennox Head, enabling the group to construct the first of 17 permanent raised gardens beds, which will ultimately form the shape of a leaf. The leaf design is modelled on the Jardins du Château de la Chatonnière in France.
Since breaking ground in April 2019, the members of Lennox Community Gardens have planted a wide selection of fruit trees, including native bush tucker and several critically endangered species. They also boast a range of bananas, a bunch of which was presented to the team at Elders as a token of appreciation. Team members now turn their focus more to the production of annual crops which, in the absence of raised gardens beds, they have been growing directly in-ground, which can be a challenge for the less physically able.
Lennox Community Gardens welcomes everyone to get involved, be it as a member or volunteer. The group is also actively seeking local businesses or individuals to sponsor the construction of more raised garden beds.
To demonstrate their progress so far, Lennox Community Gardens will be holding an open day on Sunday 14 March at 3pm. All are welcome to attend.
