Lennox Head Residents’ Association, February 2019

A hot 4 February meeting was attended by 24 members, visitors and guests including The Hon. Ben Franklin MLC, Parliamentary Secretary for Renewable Energy and Northern NSW, candidate for the State seat of Ballina and Cr Sharon Cadwallader. 

Intrapac/Aureus/Dr Stewart’s farm, Skennars Head DA 2017/244 was summarized by Jenny Rudolph, Intrapac town planner. It focuses on sustainability, healthy lifestyles, affordable living and connection by walking tracks. Coastal green buffer zones and parks are included with the overall subdivision around 220 lots between 450 to 700 sqm and a business centre of approximately 1,000 sqm for Stage 4. Water retention and purification facilities are planned. Intrapac and Council were directed by RPP to further negotiate development conditions. 

Recycle Right Council’s Waste Education Officer Samala Heart shared information on the recycling campaign by Northern Rivers Councils. Handouts were provided, containing an A-Z listing to clarify bin contents. The scheme focuses on Recycle Right. Kerbside collections are problematical as piles become refuse dumps. A free tipping voucher system and public recycling bins is being considered. 

Community Gardens licence issue is pending with no further consultation required. 

Lennox Village Vision. The clockwise one way street trial will run approximately 10 March to end June 2019. 

Telecommunications tower on North Creek Road Lot 11 DP627149. The Association has forwarded a submission concerning an Axicom/Telstra proposal to construct a 45m monopole and equipment shed replacing the warning beacon aircraft navigation pole. Concerns raised included radiation, damage to heritage pine trees, a covenant in place since 1972, traffic access and aesthetics. 

Surf Schools are popular but buses have caused inconvenience to residents by blocking driveways and carparks. The Association will contact operators requesting respect and consideration. 

Cr Cadwallader advised RFS have agreed to relocate to the new roundabout site on North Creek/Byron Bay Road and approval has been given for expansion to Skennars Head sportsfield, to commence shortly.
