Byron Bay Runners are organising an 8km plogging run from Flat Rock to Lake Ainsworth this Sunday 29 April. Join them and you might even get to be on the telly!
What is plogging? The word comes from a combination of ‘jogging’ and the Swedish phrase ‘plocka upp’ meaning pick up. So, runners are encouraged to pick up rubbish as they go along. Organiser Geoff Bensley will have biodegradable bags for everyone who participates on the run.
They are meeting opposite the Lennox Head Surf Club at 6.45am for a car shuttle down to Flat Rock. Start time will be shortly after 7am so anyone interested can also meet them in the carpark at Flat Rock.
They plan to have a dip in the ocean or Lake when the run is finished and then coffee/brekky at a venue yet to be announced. The run is open to everyone and if you would like a shorter run they will drop you off at Boulders Beach (5km) or Sharps Beach (7km). For runners looking for a bit extra length you can add a run around Lake Ainsworth at the end. All jogger and running levels catered for and newcomers are most welcome.
According to Geoff, ‘The ABC from Sydney will be doing a doco on our plogging run so wear your club colours, brush your hair and put on some deodorant.’
