Ballina Prawn Festival

Festival organisers are drawing on the community’s love of a good festival to take the 2014 Ballina Prawn Festival to a whole new level. Festival Director, Nadia Eliott Burgess explains, “Many decades ago, Ballina had major festivals such as the Ballina Mardi Gras and the Kingsford Smith Festival. We loved that people really got out there and had such a great time at these events. So the 2014 Ballina Prawn Festival has been created to be quirky and a whole lot of fun for everyone. We warmly welcome community participation!”

The modern day Ballina Prawn Festival is set on the banks of the Richmond River, this quintessential Aussie event is a celebration of the laid backed Ballina lifestyle and attracts thousands of local residents and visitors from throughout the Northern Rivers and beyond.

There will be something for everyone, with a raft of activities and entertainment planned for the day, including the popular DIY Raft Race, Grand Street Parade, spectacular boat parade and live music all day, with The Pigs, Dan Hannaford, Juzzie Smith and more. The giant Ferris Wheel will be back, with a whole lot more rides for the kids. The hugely popular Eat Street and Artisan Markets will be in full swing too. This year the licenced area will be family friendly, with a great view of the stage and the fiery fireworks finale. The Ballina Prawn festival will be held at Missingham Park on November 15, 9am until 9pm. Entry by gold coin. See www.ballinaprawnfestival.com.au for more details.
