Second Hand Saturday, the biggest day of garage sales on the North Coast, is to be held on Saturday 25th October and registrations are now open.
“Second Hand Saturday is a fantastic opportunity to give your belongings a second life and hold your own garage sale or hold a joint one with your community organisation” said Linda Tohver, Education Coordinator for North East Waste. “You can register directly on our website www.secondhandsaturday.com.au and we will promote your Second Hand Saturday garage sale address for free.”
Ms Tohver also added, “The aim of the event is to promote the reuse of goods and materials instead of disposal – saving resources and our local environment.”
“This year we are giving people the opportunity to double up: when they sign up to hold a garage sale on the 25th October, they can also sign up to hold another garage sale the following weekend on the 1st November. This means double the opportunity for sellers, and double the fun for buyers searching for preloved treasures.”
Each household registering will have their garage sale address listed for free in their local free paper and online. A Facebook page has also been set up to give people the opportunity to post questions and share valuable garage sale advice, as well as promote goodies for sale on the day.
North East Waste and its member North Coast Councils are coordinating the event. So register for Second Hand Saturday and help your local environment by preserving our resources through reuse, recycle and repair.
