It’s hard to believe it has been a decade since the first Bangalow Farmers Market was set up by a small band of local farmers.
As well as wanting to supply local, fresh, seasonal food to local consumers, the farmers’ philosophy was to support food security, reduce food miles and increase regional sustainability. It is well acknowledged that a local farmers market contributes to the social and economic welfare of both the rural and urban community, linking them together—and Bangalow is no different.
After a few false starts, this market began in July, 2004, at its’ current location, behind the Bangalow Hotel, thanks to the generosity and support of Kath and Tom Mooney.
From a handful of stalls in 2004, Bangalow Farmers Market now has about 20 stalls, serving mainly locals in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.
“We are a family friendly environment and all are welcome to join us in celebrating 10 healthy years in the Bangalow community’ said president Kaye Shadbolt.
On Saturday July 26th to celebrate the milestone, Bangalow farmers and producers will be throwing a community party with a free breakfast, entertainment and hamper prizes giveaways, from 8.00 till 11.00a.m.
