Lennox Head Alstonville SLSC held a highly successful junior carnival for Under 8’s through to under 14’s on home turf on 17 November, 2013.
“We did it,” said Lennox Head Alstonville SLSC Teams Manager, Bob Mills. “Whether it was their first or 31st carnival, more than 500 competitors came, saw and conquered. There were many personal bests, and lots of fantastic results for both individual and team events. Well done to all the nippers that participated,” he said.
“It was great to see such a huge representation from our club, who demonstrated skill and passion on the beach and in the water when competing against nippers from other clubs along the far north coast including Cabarita, Cudgen, Salt, Brunswick Heads, Byron Bay, Ballina and Yamba.”
The action kicked off with the traditional march past, followed by the highly coveted all age relay. Nippers then competed in an action packed schedule of events including beach sprints, flags, relays, swim and board events, and the ironman.
“This was the first carnival that we have hosted in recent times, and it was great to see our nippers performing at home, where they extended a warm welcome to their fellow competitors and showed outstanding sportsmanship.”
“The surf conditions of just one to two feet were quite friendly, and with the good weather, we were able to complete 95% of the program until the thunder arrived mid-afternoon.”
“The carnival could not have been such a success without the dedication and team work of absolutely everyone that assisted, and I extend huge thanks to all our dedicated volunteers, many of whom were hard at work before sunrise.”
