Love Lennox? Love History? The Lennox Head Heritage Committee has a new website for everyone with an interest in the history of the town.
Most people don’t know that the Lennox Head Heritage Committee has a large collection of photographs of Lennox and surrounds dating back to the late 1800s. They have been collecting, cataloguing, and caring for the collection for a number of years from the heritage room at the back of the library. They have now burst out of the library and onto the internet so they can share these precious photographs with everyone.
The new website lets you easily browse the collection of over 1000 images through FLickr, where you can comment on them and share them with your friends.
The images feature memories such as beach scenes from the 50s and 60s, sand mining, Lake Ainsworth, and tell a story of how this little beachside community grew through time. You can also download a heritage walking trail that will take you past some of Lennox Head’s most historic sites.
The Heritage Committee would love to hear from anybody who has old pictures lying around, maybe you have some tucked in the shed or the attic? We happily accept donations of photographs, or can offer advice on how to care for and protect your old photos. So visit the new website for a trip down memory lane, and enjoy this precious collection that belongs to the community.
