We are all grateful that this year was quiet for fires compared to last season, however there was an increase in motor vehicle accidents and faulty alarm systems, which required the assistance of our local Rural Fire Service (RFS).
Despite the fact that the fire season is finished, the RFS wants all residents to know that they still need to have their smoke alarms checked by accredited installers.
Also, as Lennox Head is in a Council ‘brown’ area, any burning within your property should be approved by a Council Ranger, outside of the fire season.
After the fires of 2017, we were fortunate to have new members approach the brigade and have had our numbers almost double.
These new members have passed their training courses and are ready for next year’s season. I congratulate them on caring for the community.
Enquiries are still welcome for joining this worthwhile volunteer organisation.
