Surfing Lennox Book Gets Financial Support

Great news in an update to a story we ran in June about the book that will document the history of surfing around the Lennox region, which is being put together by the subcommittee of the Lennox Head Heritage Committee.

The Surfing Lennox crew have been successful in securing three separate grants totalling $8400 that will go toward part funding the book.

Thanks to Ballina Shire Council for providing $1000 towards the project.

This has been supplemented by $5000 from a ‘Create NSW Cultural Grant’, a devolved funding program administered by The Royal Australian Historical Society on behalf of the NSW Government.

Another $2400 Grant came from the NSW Heritage Small Grants Program 2017, a project assisted by funds allocated to the Royal Australian Historical Society through the Heritage Branch of the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage.

But the surfing crew are still asking for your support to help gain another $5000 that’s on offer from the Southern Cross Credit Union Community 2017 Grants scheme.

Alongside the strength of the application, the success of the SCCU grant takes into consideration a survey where the public can go online and vote and have their say about who should receive one of three $5,000 grants to help with their community projects.

Team member Vic Leto is urging everyone to go to the survey and VOTE 1 for Lennox Head Heritage Committee. Adding a Like of SCCU’s Facebook page will also gift one additional vote to our project.

The crew are still calling out to the public for donations of photos, recollections and any surfing lifestyle memories that can be collated into the publication reflecting our town’s surfing transition.

Vic says “so far what is emerging is an array of photographs from 1970’s onward but an element of mystery still surrounds the early 60’s and times circa. 1958 when it is believed Lennox point was first surfed. We are open to any information that may come to light and now is the time for anyone to come out of the woodwork with any old photos or information of the times.”

If you can contribute to creating this permanent collection of the surfing history of Lennox Head and adjoining surf breaks, please contact Vic Leto (0401 522 124), Max Perrot (0427 875 066), George Leslie (0414 935 951), Phil Myers (0403 230 892) or Robyn Hargrave (0412 660 994).

To help the team win the $5000 SCCC Community funding grant, please vote before 27th October here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/sccuvotingfb
