Lennox Head Residents’ Association – March 17

At our standing-room-only 6 February meeting we welcomed more than 30 new members and our three B Ward councillors

Epiq Development General Manager, Clarence Property Trust, Paul Rippon outlined progress and future stages. A request has been made to State Planning to increase the size of the shopping precinct to allow for a gym and larger supermarket to accommodate demands of on line ordering. The medical facility looks promising with enquiries Australia wide from doctors and dentists. It may be open by Christmas 2018 depending on construction by Ballina Shire Council (BSC) of the northern end of Hutley Drive and this is subject to funding, land acquisition and approval processes.

Sites initially planned for retirement living and ‘future mixed use’ have been found to be unsuitable for those purposes and may be rezoned for medium density residential and community mixed use development, such as a pre school or tavern. After Epiq landscaping, the ‘wetlands’ space will be returned to BSC when Hutley Drive is completed. More land releases, some with ocean view, will commence in for March or April.

Anti social behaviour on Australia Day in the vicinity of Lake Ainsworth  will be brought to notice of BSC, Richmond Local Area Command (Police) and youth workers to request attention at times during the year when trends show unacceptable behaviour and risk to youth, the community and public property.

Grafitti promoting a rally early in February is condemned by LHRA Inc. Such anti-social, criminal behaviour in our village impacts our businesses and visitors who will convey bad news many times faster than good.

Proposed winter Olympic ski jump facility at Lake Ainsworth Sport and Recreation  Advice was received late 2016 from the Minister for Sport indicating planning is still in process and stating that there will be community consultation when plans are ready.
