2017 has started off well for Leba with some of the juniors grabbing some great results over the Christmas break.
Mickey Mcdonagh took out the first leg of the junior subway series at Bells Beach. Jai Glindeman and Nixie Ryan won their age divisions in the national Rip Curl final at Narrabeen with Jack Obrien in 2nd place in the 12s and in the 10s Dembe Ryan scoring 3rd & Harry O’Brien making the Semi Finals.
Some of these results come on the back of a Leba junior development program run by Leba head coach James Wood. The program included video analysis, a few trips to the Surfing Australia High Performance Centre and aerial training sessions using a JetSki. The kids visibly improved during the program and are positioned well for some more great results this year.
Of most interest will be on how Stu Kennedy goes as he heads into round one of the WSL at Snapper in March. 2016 was his “break out” year all the Leba crew are barracking for him to back it up this year.
The first round for Leba is on the 4th of February for “big Leba” and 5th of February for the “little Leba”. Surfers can join up on site for the year and all age groups are anticipated to run. For all details check out the Leba website.
