On Friday March 3 at 6pm, the Art Team is holding a dinner and exhibition to raise money for Cancer research. Every year The NSW Cancer Council runs a Relay for Life fundraiser and for the last 10 years Lesley Ryan and the Art Team have been one of the participants, they have raised over $30,000 for the relay.
Members are made up of Lesley’s art students and the Thursday Girls – artists who have painted together for over 15 years. This year with the support of Club Lennox, the event is expanding: as well as an art exhibition, there will be a dinner, art auction, and art wheel. The lucky winners of the Art Wheel, may choose from a selection of exquisite, donated art works in an evening of good food, lucky door prizes and a raffle.
At approximately 8 pm 2 paintings will be auctioned. These paintings have been donated by Lesley Ryan. Lesley’s art reached international status in 2016, with her work being included in the publication Strokes of Genius the best of drawing.
When asked why she is obsessed with raising money for Cancer research Lesley answered, ‘I am a survivor and I would like to see many more people survive cancer. The survival rates are getting better each year, in no small part to the research funding that is donated by the Cancer Council, from the Relay. I have watched good, productive people, die early. Every day of my life I am touched by the suffering.’
Dinner tickets at $55, are available from Lesley Ryan on 0403 848 417, Ballina Art and Framing – 9 Ray O’Neil Cres, Ballina or Club Lennox.
