There was an air of celebration in the air this evening, Tuesday 29 November, as close to a hundred people gathered at Lex Thai for the announcement of the Flavours of Lennox Award.
The people’s choice award is the culmination of the Flavours of Lennox competition held at the Love Lennox Festival in June. Lennox restaurants are invited to prepare a sample dish to sell to visitors to the festival, and locals really stepped up to the plate this year, preparing a range of special Love Lennox dishes, which they offered to enthusiastic diners and visitors throughout the day. Diners were encouraged to vote for their favourite dish, and tonight was the night when we found out who that was.
According to organisers, Pancho Villa and their Crispy Fish Taco was the clear winner, by a Mexican Mile. So popular was the dish—previously not on the menu—that the proprietors of Pancho Villa have had so many requests for it since the festival that they have been forced to put it on the menu.
Pancho Villa was in good company, with Groovers coming second, Family Curry Hub third, Fishy Fishy fourth and Portia Tresselt and her Let’s Celebrate Health coming in 5th place. (Portia also got a special mention from the visiting celebrity chef on the day for her amazing lime cheesecake.)
Lek from Lex Thai, who was the winner last year, hosted the evening and presented the trophy to the next deserving winners.
The Love Lennox Festival has been enormously successful since its inception. Not only does it bring thousands of visitors to town, but it also brings the town together.
