Cr Sharon Cadwallader
It has been a great honour and privilege to serve the Ballina Shire community as a councillor for the past 12 years and I am seeking your support to be your next Mayor.
I am standing on my track record as an honest hard working representative who is passionate and committed to improving our beautiful shire.
The experience that I have gained in the role is extensive, having represented council on a plethora of committees, and currently holding the positions of Chairman of the Tweed Richmond Regional Library, The Deputy Chairman of the Australian Coastal Councils Association, Chairman of the B Ward Committee and NSW Customer Council Advocate for Essential Energy. I am a small business owner operator and a Civil Celebrant and Justice of the Peace. Past experience includes the Regional Manager’s position for NSW Business Chamber.
The priorities that I see in need of attention are economic development and job creation, affordable housing, beach erosion, the completion of the Coastal Recreation Path, relocation of the Lennox Markets from Williams Reserve, Surf Club support for upgrading or renewal, more footpaths, and parking solutions, the delivery of a four court indoor sports stadium and event centre as well as the village renewal implementation.
Nathan Cooper, Greens
Appropriate Rural Dual Occupancy
Nathan grew up on a large cattle farm and understands the bush. He will champion appropriate rural dual occupancy to provide dwellings that reflect the growing diversity of our region in exchange for enhancements to the natural environment. The result will be large scale ecosystem repair at no expense to the taxpayer, a jobs boom and affordable housing.
Large Scale Solar
Nathan is an appointed Advisory Panel member for Lismore Community Solar and a renewable energy investor. Working along side groups such as Enova Energy and COREL he will build on the shire’s existing projects and will aggressively pursue 100% renewable energy for Ballina.
With many years’ experience in community development and as part of the anti CSG campaign Nathan knows the power of an engaged and organised community. Along with existing Greens frameworks and council expertise he can deliver superior outcomes on issues such as Lake Ainsworth.
Steady as she goes
Nathan supports council’s integrated planning strategies. With current low interest rates and secure financials Ballina can deliver on many projects in the near future as well as build the infrastructure to bring more jobs and opportunity.
With 26 years’ of business ownership, post graduate policy development qualifications and a community development history Nathan is ready to serve our community.
Cr Jeff Johnson
It has been a real honour to represent Lennox Head on Council over the past 8 years. I am passionate about my community and am the only current Councillor or candidate who lives in Lennox. I’m a member of both the Lennox Chamber of Commerce and Residents’ Association and an active volunteer surf lifesaver.
As the owner of the Lennox based Premium Solar Solutions I understand the important role small business plays in supporting jobs growth and economic development. I have a degree in Business Administration at Southern Cross University and have completed Post Graduate studies as part of a Law Degree.
As Mayor my focus will always be on initiatives that enhance our lifestyle and protect the environment. Initiatives that I have championed on Council:
· Greater funding for footpaths and cycleways
· Community Gardens
· Street tree initiatives
· Ocean Pool for Shelly Beach,
· Restricting 3 storey McMansion development
· Improved amenity and water quality for Lake Ainsworth
· Shade sails for children’s playgrounds
· No more rate rises
I am the only Mayoral candidate who has voted against successive rate rises over the past 8 years. Rates have gone up by over 100% in this time. I promise not to support another 4 years of rate increases proposed by Council staff.
