The LeBa Juniors continued to show this area is Australia’s leading junior surf training ground with a extremely close 2nd at the Junior Kirra teams championships this month. As Australia’s premier junior teams event, over 20 teams from boardriding clubs from all over the country turned up to compete for the title this year. As the defending champions it became a case of all eyes on the LeBa Red team as they took an early lead thanks to 1st places by Zac Condon, Hunter Weston and Rino Lindsay coupled with a strong 2nd place from Angus Baker on day one. Day two threw up atrocious conditions however Jai Glinderman, Jack Murray and Finley James kept the contest alive with 2nd places in their heats. The contest ended up a two-way tussle between the LeBa groms and the Jnr team from Maroubra with the two clubs leaving the rest of the field a long way behind. Despite a great 1st place heat result by Luke Condon the Maroubra crew just snuck pass the Leba Red team in the last heat and the LeBa boys ended up with an excellent 2nd place overall.
To really show off the depth of junior surfing talent in this area the LeBa Green team also put in some great performances. However luck in the tricky conditions didn’t run their way and they finished down the field in 18th.
The LeBa girls team was the talk of the event leading the girls competition for the majority of the weekend with some fantastic results. Once again the conditions on day two threw a spanner into the works and the girls finished with very credible 4th. The future for the girls is looking bright with the whole team putting in a stellar performance.
The teams were:
Zac Condon, Jack Murray, Finley James, Luke Condon, Hunter Weston, Angus Baker, Rino Lindsay and Jai Glinderman.
Oden Wauchope, Beau Glinderman, Eli Carr, Blake Ghanimeh, Cory McInnes, Nathan McKenzie, Jae Waters, Noah Brown
Mahlia James, Mahlia Carr, Megan Davenport, Steph Single, Mimi Stewart, Karina Hartley, Casey Rae Curtis, Cori Hardy
Also worthy of mention were some great results out of the Rip Curl Grom Search in Jan Jac Victoria, (unfortunately held over same weekend) was Nyxie Ryan who won the 14 girls and Jack O’Brien who scored a 3rd place in the 12 boys.
