LeBa was able to hold a great club round for the month of May with conditions ticking nearly every box. Blue skies, warm sunshine, offshore winds, clear water and a clean 3 foot swell made it one of the best rounds held in a while. We even didn’t get a unwanted visit from any big fish in a grey suit this month! In the Fleas Rueben just pipped Woody Webster, Poppy Morrison and Reef Webster to get his first win of the year. Harry O’Brien turned the tables on Dembe Ryan from last month’s event and took out the Groms. His brother Jack was able sneak past Rino Lindsay in the cadets and Jae Waters finished in front of Finley James in the Juniors. Mickey McDonagh took out the Opens getting the points over Noah Cooney, Luke Condon and Eli Carr.
The round proved a perfect training ground leading into the Far North Coast Regional Junior Titles presented by Summerland Credit Union held the very next weekend. The LeBa Juniors proved dominant across all the age groups with some fantastic results. Consequently nearly all the juniors who entered the event from LeBa have made the FNC Regional Team to complete at the upcoming Junior and Grommet State Titles. A huge finals day for the Regional Titles played out on the Sunday at North wall, Ballina in perfect 3-4 ft ‘A frame’ peaks. There were many performances worthy of mention withone of them being Lennox head brother and sister combo Nixie Ryan winning 14 girls and brother Dembe Ryan winning the 12 boys. Luke Condon placed 2nd in the under 18s just going down to Joel Paxton of Byron Bay who had to pull off a massive air reverse to score a perfect 10 and secure the win. LeBa product Finley James also made the FNC team in the 18s for the Junior State Titles at Port Macquarie to be held in July with a creditable equal 5th. In the under 16s Mickey McDonagh was head and shoulders above the rest and will be the one to watch at Port with his innovative surfing. Our newest LeBa recruit Jai Glinderman took out the 14 boys with Jack O’brien 3rd, Rino Lindsay and Angus Baker in equal 5th all making the FNC team heading to the Grommet State Titles at Maroubra Beach in July. Harry O’brien will also be joining has brother Jack at Maroubra finishing 3rd in the 12s. Good luck to all the LeBa juniors for the upcoming Titles.
