Wed 16 Sept– Working at Seven Mile dunes working between Williams St and Foam at 8.30am.

Baby Bounce – Lennox Head Library

School term only on Wednesdays at 10.30am, Baby Bounce promotes early literacy in babies under 2 years of age and fosters parent child participation and interaction. It’s a fun way for a parent and child to get rockin’ with the rhyme and rhythm of songs, poems, finger plays and nursery rhymes. Also a great way to meet other parents and babies in the area.

Special Story Time with local author Zanni Louise– Lennox Head Library

Thurs 17 Sept – At 10.30am, author Zanni Louise will be at the library reading her latest book ‘Too Busy Sleeping’.

Story time is on during the school term only on Thursdays at 10.30am. A friendly, social get together for local parents and their toddlers; this popular story time and craft session for pre-schoolers is held weekly.

School Holiday Activities – Lennox Head Library

Mon 21 Sept – Between 2 -3.30pm the library will be hosting a Tashi afternoon to celebrate Tashi turning 20. There will be craft, stories, games and a viewing of a Tashi episode.

Every day of holidays – DIY craft…everything will be set up for you to do your own craft. Just bring yourself and your creativity. First weeks theme will be decorate a mask and the second week will be make a sun catcher.

Lennox Head Playgroup – Lennox Head Community and Cultural Centre (Children’s Area)

Every Tuesday during the school term 9.30-11.30am for 0-6 years of age and Fridays 9.30am-11.30am for 2-6 years of age.

A place where parents/carers and children (0 – 6yrs) can come together in a relaxed and friendly environment. Playgroup gives children an opportunity to play, make friends and develop skills, all while having fun. Playgroup provides parents/carers with an opportunity to meet other parents. Thurs 17 Sept— Jam Night from 8pm. The legendary Lennox Jam night has been running for many years and brings musicians in from all around the Northern Rivers areas and beyond. Come on down, bring your instrument. All are welcome who are looking to gain experience or just want to mingle with musicians.

Tues 22 Sept – Every Tuesday at 9.30am for the over 50’s. Lifeball is a game designed to keep people over 50 fit and healthy. Northern Rivers Community Gallery – Cherry St, Ballina

Formed by a love of native fauna and flora, this earthy exhibition highlights the precious raw beauty of the Bundjalung region. The works presented in

this stunning exhibition are a series of original prints created from beautifully detailed woodcuts made by the artist while on location in the coastal beaches and healthlands of the local area.

SWEET AS – Local Primary School Group Exhibition

Life is so much sweeter when you’re surrounded by sugarcane!

The Sweet As exhibition is a combined collection of artworks created by students from Empire Vale, Wardell, Cabbage Tree Island and Broadwater Public Schools.

The students’ artworks reflect a sense of place and provide a colourful insight into life growing up surrounded by sweeping paddocks of sugar cane.

The artworks have been created in partnership with local professional artists and story-tellers who have provided opportunities for students, teachers and the community to share and retell a delicious range of local ‘sugar coated’ stories.

Kids at our schools love the cane!

The Cedar-getters Daughter is an ongoing theme explored in Jennifer Collins’ arts practice and over the years has been developed into print, drawn and painted works. The pen and watercolour works in this exhibition are colourful representations about the history of the Big Scrub in the early days of settlement and the getting of timber in Northern NSW.

The exhibition highlights the plight of vulnerable, endangered and critically endangered animal species.

SPAIN UNPACKED – Cassandra-lyn Palmer

After a 6 week Art residency at Can Serrat in Spain, Cassandra-lyn Palmer created a series of works inspired by the landscape and Catalonian language in and around Barcelona. These wonderful collections of works are creative abstracts from being immersed in the Spanish landscape and culture as experienced through the eyes of the artist.

Breast Cancer Support Group – Kentwell Community Hall, Ballina

Thurs 17 Sept – 10am-11.30am. For any woman, or friends and family, diagnosed with, or recovering from, breast cancer. Held on the 1st Thursday of the month the meeting includes a sharing of morning tea and information, followed by a guest speaker and a relaxation session.

Kids Day Out at the Lismore Botanic Gardens – 313 Wyrallah Road, Lismore

Tues 22 Sept – Free holiday event from 10am to 3pm aimed at 5-12 year olds. Put on by the Lismore Botanic Gardens, Rous Water and the Lismore Council Recycling and Recovery Centre. Please bring picnic lunch, hats, covered shoes and plenty of drinking water.

Activities include:

  • tours of the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) and organics processing facility,
  • guided walks through the Lismore Rainforest Botanic Gardens, recycled art and craft,
  • free badge making
  • detective work with magnifying glasses to see what creepy crawlies are living in our waterways.
  • Love Food Hate Waste cooking demonstrations where you can learn how to make tasty meals out of leftovers, plus
  • kids can jump in our garbage trucks and get an up close and personal look at the machinery.
  • self-guided walk through the Botanic Gardens
  • check out the newly renovated Revolve Shop. You might even like to bring a picnic and have lunch among the koalas in our eucalypt forest.

The Love Food Hate Waste cooking demonstrations are being run by local chef Daniel Lange, who has trained in Sydney and London learning from the likes of Tetsuya and Jamie Oliver. These free sessions will provide practical tools and handy hints on making the most of your food for healthy, nutritious family meals and creative cookery with leftovers. There will be three sessions throughout the day, but spaces are limited.
