Storytelling Crosses Borders

Local teacher and author Susan Perrow is continuing her amazing storytelling journey, having just returned from a workshop tour of China and Hong Kong.

Susan works in a niche field: therapeutic storytelling. Her work is based upon the principle that both reading and writing stories can have a healing effect for both children and adults. Having three sons of her own, and working as a teacher all her life, she saw, first hand, the power that stories can have.

Her work has taken her all around the world, including the US, Africa, China, Hong Kong and Japan.

Recently she has been working with ‘Tokyo Shoseki’, a Japanese educational publisher, on a Japanese collection of stories that include tales of hope and resilience for the families that survived the 2011 tsunami.

She is also liaising with the co-ordinator of a refugee organisation in Eastern Europe (AMURTEL Romania) with some stories to help give psycho-social support to the children of Syrian refugees; plus planning some national tours for the second half of this year.

She has written several books over the years, including two text books, which are now being translated into Chinese, where her title Healing Stories For Challenging Behaviour is called Stories Know The Way, and has already sold 50,000 copies.

Susan will be running her Therapeutic Storytelling workshop on Sunday 17th August in Byron Bay.
